Small Grain Disease Risk: July 2, 2007 Update 
Soils in many Valley field locations are dried down now.  Rain showers are localized and according to the model, are primarily in the Kittson, Roseau and Marshall Co. areas.  The risk of a Fusarium head blight epidemic is much lower in other locations.

Soybean Foliar and Stem Disease Management Update
With soybean prices up, management of foliar and stem diseases and yield enhancement will likely be of concern for soybean production in parts of Minnesota. Foliar and stem diseases of soybean typically start to appear in late June and early July.

Steps to Detect and Respond to Soybean Rust in Minnesota
Already soybean rust is active again in several southern states as of mid-June 2007. Soybean rust is still a potential threat to soybean production in Minnesota. During the 2005 and 2006 growing season soybean rust spores were detected at numerous locations in Minnesota and the upper Midwest.

Soybean Aphid: Present but Populations Small in NW MN
Field reports and observations are finding that soybean aphids are present in soybean fields, but those populations are small. Occasionally, a larger colony can be found on isolated plants, but widespread infestations just are not being found yet. This is quite different from what was experienced last year in this region.
